General Property: 2026-2027 Policy Wording

Assets and Insurance - Does your P&C have enough General Property cover?

The P&C’s general property insurance policy includes basic cover for $20,000 worth of property owned by the P&C, but it is the responsibility of the P&C Association to ensure that they elect a total sum insured which adequately protects their insurable property. The insurable property is all contents and stock belonging to the Association for the purpose of fundraising and business operations; it would include such items as:

  • equipment used for the purpose of fundraising (e.g. Tuckshop appliances, BBQ)
  • OSHC equipment,
  • stock (e.g. uniforms, Tuckshop food),
  • stationery,
  • general contents,
  • office equipment (e.g. P&C owned laptops, printers).

The nominated sum insured must also include a provision for any property which is owned by P&C subcommittees (e.g. outside school hours care, swimming club) if applicable.

P&Cs may find that they need to request an increase to the basic cover (for example, larger P&Cs might have extra assets due to the size of their business operations, or uniform shops may be holding large amounts of stock at the end of the year). Please make this request by emailing [email protected] and asking for a:

  • TEMPORARY INCREASE - Example SS P&C request a temporary General Property increase from $20,000 to $100,000 effective from 01/12/202X to 31/01/202X. In this instance, P&Cs Qld will issue a pro-rata invoice based on the number of days of cover requested.
  • PERMANENT INCREASE - Example SS P&C request a permanent General Property increase from $20,000 to $40,000 effective from 01/06/202X. In this instance, P&Cs Qld will issue a pro-rata invoice based on the number of days of cover to the end of the policy period. The next Annual Renewal will automatically roll over at the new amount.
  • PERMANENT DECREASE - Example SS P&C request a permanent General Property decrease from $40,000 to $20,000 effective from the new policy period 01/03/202X. P&Cs Qld can alter your Annual Renewal (up until the time of payment) and reissue the tax invoice at the reduced amount.

Both P&Cs Qld and Willis strongly recommend that P&Cs assess the total replacement value of their stock & assets when the Annual Renewal arrives in February to ensure there is adequate General Property cover and re-assess again throughout the year.
